Social Justice

Social Justice

  • Imagine… … No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man … John Lennon The Social Justice Ministry seeks to model Christ’s example of love-through-action in our church and beyond its doors, by working towards systemic change in the structures that contribute to oppression, inequality, and social and legal barriers.
  • As a ministry, we contribute towards Christian Formation by combining educational workshops with action-oriented projects to confront and challenge the ways in which social and legal barriers and oppression manifest in our own lives and the community at large. We will build community and effect change by empowering ourselves and others to engage in the work of alleviating injustice.
  • We seek not only to be a resource for information in our target areas, but also to form a network of parish liaisons that will create a center of awareness of issues and actions that are key to each community in the parish. All are welcome… Come as you are!

  • The Social Justice Ministry is by conception, a faith-based group dedicated to fulfilling our baptismal vows and following the call to love God and to ‘love our neighbor as ourselves.’ This ministry recognizes the dignity of all peoples and the respect due to them.
  • It is committed to the eradication of racial and ethnic barriers and the promotion of a climate that recognizes social injustices and responds accordingly. The idea for the Social Justice ministry is rooted in the belief that we as Christians are called to “seek and serve Christ is all persons” and to “strive for justice and peace.”
  • The Bible calls us to “speak up for those who cannot” and “defend the right of the poor and needy” (Prov. 31:8-9). As seekers of justice, we answer this call through heightened awareness of public policy and advocacy. This may take us beyond the traditional avenues of Christian charity to the work justice demands – transforming the systems that necessitate charity.
  • The issues surrounding immigration reform are complex and are intertwined with the continuing issues of racial injustice and institutional racism that are bound up in the fabric of this country. As Christians we stand on the side of love with all families, regardless of immigration status, and will strive to create a welcoming community and congregation.
  • It’s clear that Jesus expects us to follow his example and love one another. We imagine a community, both inside and outside of the church, where justice “rolls down like waters , and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream: (Amos 5:24).
  • Our hope is to live into Martin Luther King’s words that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. Our ministry has as its ultimate aim to transform systems of injustice in the community of Lawrenceville and Gwinnett County such that the threat to justice in the rest of our state may be diminished or eradicated altogether because of collective witness to the gospel,
