2018 Annual Meeting Pastoral Care Report
\nI give thanks for the struggle we have been through this year to keep our group
\nfunctioning. It has helped us redefine how best to accomplish our goals. Thank
\nyou for praying and doing!
\nWe met four times in 2018. We provided transportation to parishioners in need,
\nmeals for the freshly bereaved or hospitalized, raised resources and visited and
\nbrought communion to the homebound. We have also at times stood with the
\nclergy at the end of the service to greet and be available for pastoral care needs
\nand prayer. We want to continue and expand our ministry in 2019. We will meet
\nquarterly, on the fourth Sunday of the month, following the second service. Our
\nfirst meeting in 2019 will be on Sunday, January 27th, at 12:30 in the Gathering-
\nRoom. Our members are: Marilynn Emmons, Etta Cole, Vanya Davis, Pam Herrin,
\nTonya Leary, Marvelle Martin, Jeannette Best Nunez, Linda Nwosu, Marian
\nFranks, Hillary Saunders, Frances Hart, Diana Farmer, Valerie Curry, Samantha
\nToomey and Gabriele Mayes (chair).
\nWe have restructured our ministry for maximum participation by the whole
\ncongregation. When pastoral care needs are brought to our attention we will
\nnow share them with you all through an e-blast so you have the chance to
\ncontribute to those who have a specific need.
\nIn fact, we want to encourage you to participate in many aspects of our ministry:
\n\uf0b7 Sign up to be part of the meal-train. You\u2019ll only get called a couple of times
\na year, and may only offer part of a meal, like soup, a salad, or desert.
\n\uf0b7 Pay attention to the comings and goings and being of our people. Write
\ncards, make phone-calls when you notice someone\u2019s prolonged absence.
\nAnd when you know of something like that, PLEASE LET US KNOW so we
\ncan follow up and people don\u2019t fall through the cracks. Of course, many of
\nyou are already doing this \u2013 we just want to make it overt and invite ALL.
\n\uf0b7 Please take responsibility for what you need and LET US KNOW WHEN YOU
\nARE SICK OR NEED HELP! We want to respond \u2013 but when we don\u2019t know
\nbecause you\u2019re suffering silently we can\u2019t offer support.
\n\uf0b7 Use your group-membership to give pastoral care to each other \u2013 again,
\nsomething most of you are already practicing: Foyer-members can keep
\ntrack of each other and send in a meal if someone needs it or offer other
\ncare. The same goes for the Brotherhood and ECW, Bible-Studies or the
\nyouth-group and Women\u2019s Spiritual Formation Group, the choir and the
\ndifferent ministries. Keeping track of each other is an active way of loving.
\n\uf0b7 Please check your contact-info in the directory.
\n\uf0b7 Sign up for the transportation-ministry \u2013 which is for people who need
\noccasional rides to church, doctor\u2019s visits etc. Contact me for that.
\nSo these are just a few ideas of how YOU can practice pastoral care\u2026 It is the soul
\nand work of church to take care of each other and build each other up for the
\nwork of ministry. If pastoral care is not happening the way you think it should
\nthen help us! Join us! We\u2019d love to have more members \u2013 and I would like to
\nmake a special plea to the youth as well: In the past some of you have come with
\nme to bring communion to someone. They were over the moon to see a young
\nperson and wanted to know all about them. And, of course, that\u2019s not only true
\nfor the youth. Let me know if any of you would like to come along – anytime!
\nThanks be to God that he gave us to each other\u2026 that we are his gifts to St Eds,
\nevery one of us here. Let\u2019s love each other even better this coming year!! Then
\nwe will also be better able to love the stranger in the community around us.
